Log in. Jump to Latest Follow. ed Feb 26, Hey all, I got an MMI message stating I need to top up my oil with a maximum of 1 litre but can continue driving the other day. Thought this was a little odd since I had a service last October and there is no leak under the engine.
Anyway, I put a litre in the next day cold engine and took it for a 20 minute spin to get the engine temp up. Checked the levels and got the message 'Please drain oil' I read that over filling can be just as detrimental as not having enough however, I can only p that the oil is only just over seeing as the car recommended putting a litre in.
Does anyone think this is a problem and whether I need to have this drained? I'm holidaying in the UK and driving a reasonable amount Will any oil burn off due to the extra miles? Any advice would be useful, thanks!
ed Jul 18, I would not ignore the message I got a DPF warning shortly after a service. I checked and had the message 'Please drain oil' ed Nov 12, Drain the oil, only add.
Please drain oil????
Just use a PELA to suck the oil out of the dipstick hole. I only had a plastic bung in my dipstick tube in my Q5, so just purchased an adjustable dipstick off of ebay, nice to check via dipstick. Check engine oil after service, adjust dipstick so oil is at top of dipstick, so can check anytime now and easier to do my own oil changes if required. Turns out I had a an extra 2 litres in my engine.

Audi discovered a fault in the sensor which made the MMI tell lies It was a miracle I managed to continue to drive for something like miles, topping up a litre on both occasions I received a yellow warning and the engine didn't flood or set alight?! They didn't know what happened, they just reset the sensor and no further warnings cropped up. ed Jun 10, Had you recently washed it or opened the bonnet. Actually nothing like that.
However I was living and driving in the sticks just outside Salisbury for a week so the car was subjected to country lanes, pot-holed farm tracks and a few days of heavy snowfall so it really could've been any of those. Shame I couldn't pin point the real issue. ed Apr 6, On the oil level display my level was showing under a quarter at the lower reading.
I added around ml of oil and when I re-checked the level, it was showing just under full. Anybody else keeping tabs on their oil consumption with the MK2 petrol engine?
So remember if topping up your oil. Just a small amount then check the level.
ed Aug 14, First things first. Make sure your car is on perfectly level ground.
There are discrepancies even parked at the slightest angle. Sometimes mine will show up to as many as 2 segments down on the display and sometimes none. Hi - yep, all done on the flat outside my home.
Still showing the same level as yesterday. The only horizontal line is at the bottom of the display which represents the low level.
Will keep checking, but happy with the consumption so far. Justanhonestman said:. I don't have increments showing, just a straight line in white to display the oil level.
