Hotel Iceland Manali

Iceland If the idea of looking out of hotel window and seeing the meandering Beas river  or snow-capped mountains, or pine forests, or lush green valleys excites you, Iceland Hotel is the ideal address near Manali. Hotel Iceland is located in the picturesque village of Solang at an altitude of 8500 feet. Iceland is just a 13 km uphill drive from Manali..but once you reach there, you are transported into a different world, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy Manali. Solang is known as the adventure capital of Himachal Pradesh, and with good reason – the Iceland hotel owners, experienced mountaineers themselves, can organise trekking, camping, mountaineering, paragliding, zorbing, rock climbing, rappelling, skiing and a host of other activities. For those who want to curl up with a good book and do some sight-seeing on the side, all the comforts of home are available.

The hotel provides elegant 14 double bed rooms with attached bath. Rooms are equipped with electric heaters during winters. Hotel serves mainly Indian food in a smallhotelice restaurant. In winters the place is totally covered with snow. Hotel also arranges for pick up and drop to Manali on chargeable basis. The hotel may look like a concrete block from outside but the rooms are tastefully done with wooden furnishings. All rooms are mountain facing. Tip: Request for the room on a higher floor

I recommend Iceland Hotel for people who wish to experience a wide range of adventure activities offered around Solang. The owner Khem Raj Thakur being an experienced Mountaineer and Skier himself can organise a wide range of activities. The place is also ideal for people who wish to enjoy some untouched vistas of Manali and are looking for a quiet holiday with a bountiful of snow capped mountain and valley views.

Apple View Guesthouse Manali

appleview A backpacker’s delight, Apple Valley Guest House has been  a stopover for countless travelers visiting Manali and beyond. An introduction to Manali is incomplete without a mention of this cozy and warm guest house run by Rabet Ram Thakur and family. Lonely Planet describes this guest house as, A delightful village guesthouse in the peaceful orchards above the Club House, run by a friendly family who take pride in their neat and tidy rooms.

Apple View’s secluded garden is paved with flagstones of traditional local slate plus a grass area, surrounded by beds of roses and blooming flowers in summer. There is also a herb and vegetable garden that provides fresh produce for the kitchen. The garden is spacious with enough room for all the guests to sit comfortably and enjoy the peace of the Himalayan summer.

The guesthouse is set in an Old Manali apple orchard and consists of 8 rooms spread out over two floors. All rooms are for Rs. 250/ a night and have shared bathrooms with Western-style toilets. The shared bathroom and toilet are separate and are kept clean and odor free on a daily basis. Hot water for showers is provided via a large electrical geyser. The guesthouse has a very friendly seating area and a balcony on the first floor where you can chat with the other guests and enjoy the evening tea. Simple meals are available at very reasonable prices. A meal of veg curry, daal, rice, chapatis and pickle will only cost around Rs. 50/.

The guest house is small and intimate with only eight double rooms, and never feels crowded. Each room is spacious, light and airy, with large wood framed windows fitted with fly screens. Each room has a large double bed, lockable cupboard space, and table and chairs.

All linen is clean and fresh and blankets are provided at no charge, with more available on request if needed. All rooms are secure and lockable with either your own padlock or one provided. All rooms have functioning electrical outlets for recharging etc.

The view from the guesthouse roof is breathtaking. The panorama takes in the snowy peaks of Solang Nala to the North, the neighboring village of Vashisht across the river and the Himalayan foothills towards the Chandrakhani Pass to the South. If you want a relaxing spell in Manali wishing to get away from the grinding city life at an economical budget, this place is highly recommended.

From the Mall road take the road leading towards Loghuts. Further ahead the road on the left leads to the Loghut Road while the road on the right continues shortly to the Old Manali Bridge across the Manalsu Nala river. Once across the bridge, turns to the right and one would see the clubhouse easily.  A little more distance from the clubhouse (about 5 mins walking distance) would be the base of a slope where a few minutes walk up would be the guesthouse. A short walk up the slope is the guesthouse shaded by the apple orchard on a higher ground and quiet and free from the noisy street.

Holiday Cottages & Resort Manali

Holiday Cottages over the years have become synonym to a perfect gateway for a refreshing and enjoyable holiday in Manali. The property initially started with 4 Cottages is now a 45 room Resort and has been suitably renamed as Holiday Cottages and Resort.

Holiday Cottages Manali
View of Holiday Cottages

The resort offers superb views of the snow clad mountains and the valley probably one of the best in Manali. Holiday Cottage now offers accommodation in Resort apart from the Cottages. The Resort has newly done rooms which open towards the valley and each room has it’s own private balcony.

Tastefully done rooms in the Resort

Cottages offer accommodation in 6, 4 and 3 bedrooms. One has an option of renting an entire cottage for bigger families or renting individual rooms. All rooms are independent with a central sitting room and kitchen. Rooms have double beds and are airy, spacious and well furnished with attached bath. The property is spread out and each cottage has it’s own care taker/ service staff. Cottages have large balconies and offers nice sit out. Common sitting rooms have fire places.

Restaurant at the resort

Holiday Cottage offers Indian and Continental cuisine. The newly opened restaurant at the Resort adds to the ambiance and serves delicious platter.

Pick up and drop to Manali town is complimentary once during the day. In case you are arriving by the VOLVO, the resort also offers complimentary pickup and drop from the VOLVO station. Bonfire in winters and river rafting in season can also be arranged on request.

I recommend Holiday Cottages for offering a relaxed vacation in the midst of Manali (just 2 km from the market) and stunning views. Highly recommended for families and honeymooners.

Tip: Request for cottage with a garden for bigger families. Honeymooners, look out for the valley facing rooms in the resort.
