Manali registers 25% increase in tourist arrivals

Tourist arrivals in Manali have registered a 25% growth this year according to a ANI report. Rajeshwar Goel, District Tourism Devlopment Officer Kullu has been quoted inHadimba the news report. He confirmed there was an increase of 25% in tourists arrival into Manali. The main reason tourists are attracted to Manali is its cool weather. Sometimes its snows even in June while the rest of the country is experiencing searing heat of summer season. Manali is also a centre for adventure sports, he added.

Tourism is the mainstay of the region’s economy. More than ten million tourists throng Himachal Pradesh and most of them visit Kullu-Manali region.

In an another related IANS report, Himachal Pradesh will set up a tourist security force in order to assist and guide tourists and is also launching heli-taxi services, with the help of Central Financial Assistance. This information was divulged by Manisha Nanda, State Tourism Secretary, while addressing an inter-state regional conference of Tourism Ministers in New Delhi recently. “A draft proposal for the formation of the tourist security force has been prepared. For this, the Union Tourism Ministry has to provide liberal financial assistance,” Nanda said that the tourist security force will act as a bridge between tourists and the local police. For the heli-taxi services, HP government has sought Central assistance to kick-start the tourism project and utilise the 57 helipads in remote and inaccessible areas of the hilly state.
