The much awaited CNBC travel awards for the year 2009 have been announced. While Himachal Pradesh walked away with the honors of being Best Travel Destination state, Shimla city walked away with the Best Mountain / Hill Destination award despite traffic and water chaos in the city.

Vijay Sharma, Asst General Manager, HPTDC received the award on behalf of the state. On winning the award for the best travel destination state for Himachal Pradesh he said, “It feels great to have received this award, and that too in a beautiful city like Bangalore. In Himachal this year we are concentrating on village tourism and home-stay tourism. The recession has not had much of an effect on tourism in Himachal.”

The awards were presented on July 30, 2009 at The Leela Palace hotel in Bangalore. CNBC Awaaz and Karnataka Tourism honored the best in the Indian Travel & Tourism industry. Honorable Minister for Culture & Tourism, Ms. Kumari Selja felicitated the winners.
